US: We are working with the Taliban in the fight against terrorism

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Millie has said the United States may work with the Taliban to fight terrorism.

“The Taliban is a ruthless group and it remains to be seen whether they will change now that they have taken power,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a news conference.

“We do not know what the Taliban will be like in the future, but from my own experience I can say that it has been a ruthless group in the past and it is not clear whether it will change now that it is back in power,” he said. “In the war to reduce the dangers to the mission and the forces, we do what we have to do, not what we necessarily want.”

Meanwhile, the withdrawal of US troops and civilians from the country ended on Tuesday, ending a 20-year US presence in Afghanistan.

However, US officials still claim that many US citizens remain in Afghanistan.
