Russian Foreign Minister: We are not rushing to recognize the Taliban

“Moscow does not set any conditions for the Taliban,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted as saying by Sputnik. “Moscow is watching their promises come true and is in no hurry to recognize the Taliban government.”
“The Taliban government has not yet been recognized by any country,” he added. “Everyone is talking about the need to communicate with them on current issues, first of all, security issues, respect for citizens’ rights and ensuring the normal functioning of diplomatic missions, but no country is in a hurry to recognize this group.”
“We are not imposing anything or any conditions on the Taliban,” he said. They announced their goals. Among other things, they expressed their commitment to further fighting terrorism and drug trafficking, and assured that they would do everything possible to ensure that there is no threat to neighboring countries from Afghanistan. “And they have stated that they do not intend to destabilize neighboring countries, but to form an inclusive government that reflects the full spectrum of Afghan society, political and ethnic balance.”
“Like the vast majority of countries in the world, we have welcomed this approach and are now seeing how the promises are being fulfilled, although very little time has passed for a final conclusion,” he said, referring to the Taliban’s commitments.
