Taliban: The decision will be made to return the girls to school

Following protests by students and civil society activists on social media over restrictions on girls’ access to education in Afghanistan, the Taliban announced that the group was working on a plan to allow girls to attend school and continue their education.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid was quoted by the BBC as saying that the Taliban was trying to provide more responsible means of transport and a more educational environment for girls students in grades 6 and above.

According to him, the Taliban will decide whether to return the girls to school.

Meanwhile, civil society activists and students on social media launched a campaign yesterday to protest the Taliban’s restriction on the right to education for girls in Afghanistan.

Three days ago, the Taliban government’s Ministry of Education announced that all male students and male professors would come to school and begin their studies, but the announcement did not mention female students or female professors.
