A new shipment of Turkish Red Crescent humanitarian aid has arrived in Afghanistan

Taliban officials say that Turkish Red Crescent humanitarian aid to about 16,000 needy Afghans arrived in Afghanistan yesterday with the cooperation of the Pakistan Red Crescent.

The aid is said to include oil, rice, sugar flour and some foodstuffs delivered to Afghanistan by Turkish Red Crescent officials via the Torkham crossing.

Karim Konik, head of the Turkish Red Crescent Society, said the aid would be distributed to internally displaced people in Afghanistan.

The aid comes to Afghanistan after the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies warned that if foreign aid did not reach Afghanistan, the country’s health system would stagnate and people would starve to death.
