No US delegation will attend the Moscow summit

The State Department announced Monday that the United States will not participate in international talks on Afghanistan hosted by Russia for logistical reasons, but is ready to participate in the future.

“We look forward to attending this meeting in the future, but we cannot attend this week,” said ministry spokesman Ned Price.

Asked if the United States supported the process, he said: “We support it.”

Maria Zakharova A spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday last week that the forthcoming Moscow meeting on Afghanistan will be attended by representatives of the Afghan Taliban to discuss the situation in the country on October 20, 2021. The Taliban have accepted Moscow’s invitation to the group.

Moscow hosted a conference on Afghanistan in March in which Russia, the United States, China and Pakistan issued a joint statement calling on Afghanistan’s warring parties to reach a peace agreement and curb violence.
