Turkish Foreign Minister: Recognizing the Taliban and dealing with them are two completely different issues

The Turkish foreign minister says his country is in no hurry to recognize the Taliban, but like other countries, continues to interact gradually with the group.

According to the Daily Sabah, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt ÇavuşoOghlu told reporters that interaction with the Taliban and recognition of the group’s government are two completely different issues, and that Turkey, like other countries, continues to interact gradually with the group.

“In addition to common historical ties and lineages, we are present in Afghanistan in the field of investment and many other fields,” he said.

“The collapse of the economy and the crisis in Afghanistan must be prevented,” he said, stressing that terrorism, immigration, and drug threats must be eradicated.

He went on to say that just as the international community generally pursues a policy of gradual engagement with the Taliban, so does its country pursue a gradual engagement with the Taliban, support for humanitarian issues and active diplomacy in the international arena.
