Humanitarian aid was distributed to more than 5,000 families in western Afghanistan

Officials with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ghor say the United Nations has begun distributing winter aid to more than 5,000 families in western Afghanistan.

According to Salam Watandar, Abdul Wahab Azimi, head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ghor, said the aid was being distributed to families in dire need of humanitarian assistance due to poverty and hunger.

However, those who have received the aid express their gratitude to the UN office officials, saying that the aid will solve a large part of the problems in their lives.

Meanwhile, officials from the Ghor Department of Immigrants and Returnees, stressing that more than 2,000 families are in urgent need of winter assistance, say that if they are not helped, they will starve to death.
