Taliban: China can take effective steps to recognize the Afghan government

A Taliban spokesman said Afghanistan needed to be recognized now and that China could take stronger steps.

Zabihullah Mujahid, deputy minister of information and culture and Taliban spokesman, also made the remarks at a meeting attended by the Chinese ambassador in Kabul.

“Afghanistan needs to be recognized in the current context,” he said. “Countries around the world, especially China, need to take stronger and more effective steps in this area.”

The Taliban spokesman called China one of the most important countries in the region for Afghanistan and stressed that the Taliban want to have a strong relationship with China, adding that the Taliban have not interfered in any country’s internal affairs and other countries will not allow interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

However, no country has so far recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

The international community has made the recognition of the Taliban government in Afghanistan conditional on the formation of an inclusive government, the participation of women and minorities in government, and respect for the rights of all Afghans, including women and children.
