Hundreds of people demonstrated in Kabul to liberate Afghanistan’s reserves
Following the Taliban’s takeover of the Afghan capital, Kabul, there were protests over the suspension of international aid and the freezing of millions of dollars in reserves.
Today, about 600 people gathered at the Abdul Haq crossroads, holding banners, chanting slogans and marching to the campus, which was used as the US embassy during the occupation.
Demonstrators chanting “We want free reserves” and “You cannot bring us down with economic pressure” reacted to the cut-off of US and international aid to Afghanistan and the freezing of reserves.
The demonstrators demanded that the frozen reserves be released as soon as possible and that international aid be returned.
International aid to Afghanistan was halted after the Taliban took control of the country.
The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the US government have also cut off Afghanistan’s access to international funds.
The United Nations, on the other hand, predicts that 22.8 million people, or more than half of Afghanistan’s population, may face severe food shortages during the winter months.
On the other hand, Taliban officials are calling for the return of international aid to Afghanistan.
