Russia: The United States is putting pressure on the Taliban instead of admitting its mistakes

Russia’s deputy foreign minister says the United States is putting pressure on the Taliban instead of admitting its mistakes.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Siromolotov said in a video message today that the actions of the United States and its partners are exacerbating the situation in Afghanistan.
“Unfortunately, the actions of the United States and its partners only exacerbate the situation,” he said. “Instead of admitting mistakes and refusing to dictate, they used financial leverage to advance their demands against the Taliban.”
“Contrary to this unconstructive approach, Russia and its partners have consistently pursued a policy of strengthening open dialogue in the fight against terrorism,” he said. “In accordance with the principles of the UN Charter, UN Security Council resolutions are pursued in the fight against global terrorism.”
He said other terrorist organizations saw the rise of the Taliban as a victory for radicalism, especially al-Qaeda, which is trying to take advantage of the situation.
