Karzai called on the international community to work with the Taliban

The former Afghan president called on the international community to work with Taliban to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
“The reality is that the Taliban are now in power in Afghanistan and the international community must prioritize aid to Afghans.” Hamid Karzai, the former Afghan president, told CNN.
Asked why the international community should work with the Taliban, who are responsible for many killings, atrocities and oppression, he said: “All parties involved in Afghanistan committed crimes and this is part of our lives.”
Mr Karzai added that all Afghans had been killed and that foreigners had bombed Afghanistan in the name of the Taliban. Our villages were destroyed, children were killed, families were displaced and all sides were harmed, and finally, Afghans were harmed.
The former Afghan president is appealing to the international community, as UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande has previously said, that 23 million of the country’s 40 million people are at risk of starvation.
