Russia warned of a global humanitarian catastrophe if Afghanistan’s assets are not released

Russia’s foreign ministry says there could be a global humanitarian catastrophe if Afghanistan’s frozen assets are not released.

“If Western countries do not release the Afghanistan assets, the humanitarian catastrophe in this country will escalate on a global scale,” said Peter Ilyichev, director of international affairs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to Sputnik.

Criticizing some countries, especially the United States, for refusing to help Afghans, Ilchiev added: “Internationally maintained, it is essential to effectively overcome the challenges facing this country.”

However, the government that the Taliban has established in Afghanistan, which they call temporary, has not yet been recognized by any country.

The international community has also made the recognition of the Taliban government in Afghanistan conditional on respect for the rights of women and all Afghans, the establishment of a comprehensive government and the non-threat of any country from Afghanistan.
