UNICEF provided cash assistance to 14,000 families in Nuristan

Local officials in Nuristan say the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has provided financial assistance to more than 14,000 families in the province.
Officials say a total of 14,500 needy families in the province have received cash assistance from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), according to National Television.
Ms. Ninki, in charge of distributing the aid, said in a meeting with the Taliban deputy governor in Nuristan that the first phase of the aid distribution had begun and that each family would receive 17,500 afghanis in cash.
On the other hand, the organization has stated that Afghanistan has the highest number of child deaths in the world since 2005.
More than 28,500 children have lost their lives in Afghanistan since 2005, accounting for 27 percent of all child deaths in the world, according to the agency.
