The UN Secretary-General stressed the need to release Afghanistan’s frozen assets

The UN Secretary-General has called on the international community to release the blocked funds in Afghanistan.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that the freezing of Afghanistan’s assets by the international community has deadly consequences for the Afghan people and called on the international community to release the money.

The Taliban, meanwhile, welcomed the UN secretary-general’s remarks and praised the UN Secretary-General’s position on rescuing Afghanistan’s assets from the United States.

A spokesman for the group said such a stance would be beneficial to the UN’s prestige over the rights of nations.
