Sigar: Poverty has led some Afghan families to sell their children

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) reports that Afghan families are being forced to sell their children due to poverty and hunger.
“Poverty and hunger have led some Afghan families to sell their children to earn enough money to support their families,” the organization wrote on its Twitter page.
UN officials are concerned that this is happening across Afghanistan, with young girls in particular being exploited for early marriages and children being exploited for work, the agency added.
In the past also, the sale of young children by their families has been reported in most parts of Afghanistan due to poverty.
