Blinken: We will not allow terrorists to use Afghan territory as a refuge

The US Secretary of State has said that the United States will never allow terrorists to use Afghanistan as a base.

State Department spokesman Net Price said Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made the remarks during a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart in Washington, DC, yesterday.

The State Department spokesman said that the two sides discussed the situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan, adding that in his meeting with Kamlov, Blinken called Russia’s premeditated and unjustified attack on Ukraine a clear violation of international law and the need for widespread support for order. According to him, Blinken told his Uzbek counterpart that the United States would never allow terrorists to use Afghanistan as a refuge.

During the meeting, the US Secretary of State reiterated US support for Uzbekistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and noted continued progress in the reform process in Uzbekistan, including improving the business environment, promoting the rule of law, protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.
