Sardar Berdymuhammedov becomes the new President of Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) says Sardar Berdymukhamedov, the son of the current president, has won the presidential election with 72.97% of the vote.

The Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan has said that Sardar Berdymukhamedov, the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, won the election with 72.97%.

Incumbent Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said last week that young leaders should be given the opportunity to run the country. In this regard, the head of the Central Election Commission was asked to begin preparations for the elections.

The Central Asian country held early presidential elections on March 12.

The inauguration of the country’s new president is scheduled for Saturday.
