A mortar shell exploded in Kandahar, killing four children

Local officials in Kandahar say four children have been killed in a mortar shell blast in the province.

Mohammad Asif Hakimi, head of the Taliban police headquarters in Kandahar, said four children had been killed in a mortar shell blast in the Shahwalikot district of the province on Friday evening.

He added that the unexploded mortar shell had remains of past wars and had exploded while children were playing with it.

A few days ago, two children were killed in a mortar shell explosion in Kunduz province.
