Lavrov stressed the inclusiveness of the new Afghan government

Russia’s foreign minister says the international community must actively work with new officials in Kabul to ensure that Taliban officials take the necessary steps to be recognized by the United Nations.

The statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a meeting with Taliban acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi on the sidelines of a meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbors in Tunis, China, Sputnik reported.

“The key is to make sure that your government, your government structures, are inclusive, not only from an ethno-religious perspective, but also from the point of view of the participation of other political forces,” Lavrov said.

“A few days ago, our delegation consisting of economic institutions and infrastructure companies visited Kabul,” he added. A positive meeting was held; areas of future cooperation were discussed. “I am confident that this cooperation will be supported by both sides.”
