The United States warned the Taliban of the consequences of keeping girls’ schools closed

Following the continuing global response to the closure of schools for girls over the sixth grade by the Taliban in Afghanistan, the US State Department has warned that the closure of these schools in Afghanistan will have dire consequences for the Taliban.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price stressed that the closure of girls’ schools was against the Taliban’s promises, saying the Taliban had disappointed millions of Afghans.

He called on the Taliban to remove obstacles to girls’ schools, adding that the United States and its international partners support Afghanistan’s education program.

Price noted that continuing to block girls’ schools will have serious consequences for the Taliban; But he did not say exactly what the consequences would be for the Taliban.

However, the Taliban have said they are working to reopen girls’ schools in Afghanistan.
