Sources report an explosion at a mosque in downtown Mazar-e-Sharif

Local sources in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, say a huge explosion occurred at the Seh Dokan mosque, a Shiite mosque in the city center.

According to sources, the explosion took place while worshipers were performing noon prayers.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses say that the explosion caused many casualties, but the exact statistics of this explosion are still unknown.

Ghousuddin Anwari, head of the Abu Ali Sina Balkhi District Hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif, said many of the injured had been taken to the hospital, but the exact number of injured and dead was not yet known.

However, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the blast, and Taliban officials in Mazar-e-Sharif have not commented, but sources say Taliban have prevented people and journalists from entering the scene.

Two days ago, three consecutive explosions also targeted two Shiite training centers in western Kabul, killing 126 people and wounding 73 others, according to official figures, but Taliban officials said that in Five people were killed and nine others were injured in the incidents.
