Samangan Health Officials: More than 100 children have been infected with measles in the past month

Officials at Samangan Provincial Hospital say more than 100 children with measles have been admitted to the hospital over the past month.

Officials at Samangan Provincial Hospital say that more than 100 measles children have been admitted to the hospital in the past month, and that the highest number of infant deaths due to the disease has occurred in the districts of Do Ab, Darreh Suf Bala, Darreh Suf Payin, Khorm and Sarobagh have been registered.

Meanwhile, residents of Samangan province are urging local Taliban officials in the province and aid agencies in the health sector to address the problem, otherwise many children will die in the province.

Doctors Without Borders has previously expressed concern about the rising incidence of measles in Afghanistan, saying that Herat, Kunduz and Helmand provinces are currently the most affected.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Public Health of the Taliban government has said that Kunduz with 1,997 cases, Kabul with 1,696 cases and Helmand with 1,495 cases have the highest number of measles cases in the whole country.

Officials at the ministry say they plan to increase vaccinations in the coming months.
