Two simultaneous explosions in Mazar-e-Sharif

Local sources confirm that the explosion took place inside two minibuses in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, and that the passengers were Shiites.

Mohammad Asif Vaziri, a spokesman for the Taliban police command in Balkh, told the AFP agency that the blasts appeared to have targeted Shiite passengers.

Meanwhile, news sources in the province say that the first explosion took place near the school of Sultan Ghiasuddin inside a minibus and the second explosion took place at the intersection of containers.

However, eyewitnesses told the BBC that a magnetic bomb appeared to have been placed in a minibus, killing the occupants of the minibus and injuring the occupants of the rear minibus.

So far, nine people have been killed and 13 injured in the two blasts.

No one or group has claimed responsibility for the two blasts.

Dozens of people have been killed and wounded in an earlier blast at a Shi’ite mosque in central Mazar-e-Sharif, which has been claimed by ISIS.
