Karzai and the Russian ambassador in Kabul discussed the current situation in Afghanistan

The former President of Afghanistan met today (Wednesday) with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai discussed the current situation in Afghanistan with the Russian ambassador and stressed the need to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
The Russian ambassador is meeting with the former Afghan president after the Russian foreign minister had previously said that Moscow was ready to cooperate with the political parties in Afghanistan.
“Moscow is cooperating with other political forces in Afghanistan, including former President Hamid Karzai and former chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council Abdullah Abdullah,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a news conference.
“They like to talk to the Taliban, and in our contacts with the Taliban, we encourage them to start and continue such a meaningful dialogue,” he added.
