Taliban Respond to Cigarette Report: US Causes Abnormalities in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the interim government of the Taliban, in response to the report of the US Special Inspector General that more than 500,000 Afghan citizens lost their jobs from July to September 2021, said that the US and its allies are the cause of social and economic anomalies in Afghanistan.

A statement issued by the ministry said that the Taliban-led government has been pursuing macroeconomic plans such as opening the Qushtepe dam, extracting mines in the northern basin, starting work and facilitating the implementation of the TAPI project in order to reduce unemployment and achieve self-sufficiency.

The ministry also claims that banning begging, gathering addicts, treating and providing technical and vocational training for them, speeding up the distribution of work permits for foreign nationals, defending citizens’ rights, providing technical and vocational training equal to the needs of the labor market, capacity building For the employees of the ministries, it has developed a comprehensive plan for entrepreneurship and reducing unemployment, as well as a plan to prevent child labor, and has taken basic steps for its education.

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has previously said in a report that the total number of unemployed people after the Taliban rule is estimated at between 700,000 and 900,000 by mid-2022.

According to the agency, more than 24.4 million people in Afghanistan have been in need of humanitarian assistance since the Taliban took control of the country, up from 18.4 million before the Taliban came to power.
