Afghanistan’s three airports are managed by the United Arab Emirates
The deputy spokesman for the Taliban said that the management of the country’s three airports was handed over to the United Arab Emirates in a ceremony today.
Inamullahullah Samangani, the Taliban’s deputy spokesman, tweeted that the management of the country’s four airports was handed over to GAAC company of UAE during a ceremony.
He added that the ceremony was attended by Mullah Abdul Ghani, brother of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Hamidullah Akhundzadeh, Acting Minister of Transport and Aviation, and other officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Razzaq Aslam, CEO of GAAC.
Ghulam Jilani Wafa, Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, signed a contract for the regulation and management of Kabul, Herat and Kandahar airports at the ceremony with Razzaq Aslam, CEO of GAAC, UAE.
It has previously been said that Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates jointly manage Afghanistan’s airspace.
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation had announced that the Taliban had reached an agreement with joint Qatari and Turkish companies on the details of aviation security, ground services and airspace of the country’s five airports.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry also had confirmed that all three parties had reached an agreement on the management of Afghanistan’s airspace.
