Amnesty International has called for the release of Ajmal Haqiqi and three of his colleagues from the Taliban

Amnesty International has called for his unconditional release in response to the arrest of Ajmal Haghighi, an Afghan model and YouTuber by the Taliban.

The organization yesterday issued a statement reacting to Ajmal Haqiqi’s detention by the Taliban, saying that the move and the publication of forced confessions of Ajmal Haqiqi was a clear attack on freedom of expression in Afghanistan.

Amnesty International has called for the unconditional release of Ajmal and his three colleagues unconditionally by the Taliban, stressing that the Taliban must end their ideological censorship.

The organization added that Journalists, human rights defenders, women and girls have been harassed and threatened by the group since the Taliban came to power.

Ajmal Haqiqi, an Afghan model and YouTuber, and her three colleagues were arrested by Taliban intelligence on Tuesday on charges of blasphemy and forced to confess.

In a video released by the Taliban Intelligence Office, as he reads the pre-written confessions on paper, he explicitly admits that he has insulted the sanctities of Islam and is willing to accept any verdict handed down by the courts.
