United Nations: Millions of children are out of school in Afghanistan

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says millions of children in Afghanistan are out of school.

Kelly T. Clements, UNHCR Deputy Chief of Mission, who visited Afghanistan, visited a school in Herat.

During his visit to the school, he stressed that millions of children in Afghanistan have dropped out of school, saying that a higher percentage of these children are girls.

He called for women’s participation in politics and leadership, adding that women are involved in the development of the economy.

Earlier, Isabel Mossard Carlsen, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), tweeted that girls’ schools were closed and restrictions imposed on women and girls in Afghanistan. And educational restrictions on girls should be lifted.

After taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban imposed countless restrictions on women and girls.
