Markus Potzel has been appointed Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan

Following the end of the Deborah Lyons mission Marcus Putzel the former German Ambassador to Afghanistan has appointed by UN as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan.

A statement issued by the United Nations yesterday stated that Antonio Guterres has appointed UN Secretary-General Antonis Pozzel as chair of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Marx Putzel is a German citizen and has previously served as German Ambassador to Afghanistan.

He is fluent in German, English and Persian and has studied Persian and German language and literature in Berlin and Tajikistan until his master’s degree.
