U.S. senators have called the release of a Taliban member from Guantanamo Bay irresponsible

Some US senators have criticized the release of Assadullah Harun, a Taliban member from Guantanamo Bay, saying it was an irresponsible act.

Senator Jim Rich, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called the release of a Taliban member from Guantanamo Bay irresponsible, saying the Taliban had a dangerous relationship with al-Qaeda and were unwilling to control terrorism inside Afghanistan.

Stressing that al-Qaeda in Afghanistan has more leeway to plan attacks, he added that senators would pass a bill to prevent the release of Guantanamo detainees and their transfer to Afghanistan, so that they could not be reunited with terrorist groups.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, a member of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, called the release of the Taliban member from Guantanamo Bay irresponsible and said that US intelligence could not guarantee that Assadullah Harun would not return to the battlefield and kill innocent Americans or civilians.

He called for a bill to prevent the release of Guantanamo detainees and their transfer to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced yesterday that Assadullah Haroon, one of two Afghan prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, had been released.
