Taliban: No female UNAMA staff has been arrested in Kandahar

In response to UNAMA’s report on the arrest of female employees of this agency by the Taliban, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Taliban said that no female UNAMA employee was arrested in Kandahar.

Bilal Karimi, Deputy Spokesman of the Taliban said: No employee of the United Nations has faced any problems, and no one has been detained. Of course, an explanation was asked from a gathering of women in Kandahar, when it turned out that they were United Nations employees, the officials had given up and no incident had occurred, the information provided by UNAMA is not true.

Yesterday, the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement that the United Nations expresses its growing concern about the actions of the ruling authorities against the Afghan female employees of the United Nations.

UNAMA has claimed that yesterday, three Afghan female employees of the organization were temporarily detained for questioning by armed security officials of the Taliban.

UNAMA has called for an immediate end to all such acts of intimidation and harassment in which Afghan female colleagues of the organization are targeted, and has asked the ruling authorities of the Taliban to provide clear guarantees for the safety and security of all UN personnel in Afghanistan.
