UNAMA reacted to the flogging of 27 people in Parwan by the Taliban

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reacted to the flogging of 27 people in Parwan province by the Taliban and said that corporal punishment is prohibited by international law.

In a statement, UNAMA said that “Afghan authorities announced the public flogging of 27 people in Parwan. Corporal punishment is prohibited by international law.

UNAMA added that this institution demands respect for international human rights obligations.

Yesterday, the Taliban whipped 27 people in the city of Charikar, the capital of Parwan province, according to the verdict of the appeals court of this province, in front of the people.

The Taliban appeals court in Parwan province said that these people were accused of various crimes.
