The United Nations condemned the decision of the Taliban to suspend the attendance of girls and women in universities

The United Nations in Afghanistan has condemned the Taliban’s decision to suspend the attendance of girls and women in universities and has called for the immediate cancellation of this decision.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement that the United Nations family and the entire humanitarian community in Afghanistan are concerned about the decision of the Taliban ruling authorities to close universities to female students.
According to this institution, banning women from attending universities is a continuation of targeted discriminatory policies applied by the Taliban against women.
The United Nations Deputy Mission in Afghanistan said that preventing the meaningful participation of half of the population in the society and economy will have a devastating effect on the entire country and will expose Afghanistan to further international isolation, economic problems and other problems.
In the continuation of its announcement, UNAMA said that education is one of the fundamental human rights and excluding women and girls from secondary and higher education not only deprives them of this right, but also deprives the Afghan society in general of the benefits of women’s aid.
In the continuation of the declaration of this organization, it is stated that the measures taken by the ruling authorities to remove women and girls from education, work and other areas of life increase the risk of forced and underage marriages, as well as violence and abuse.
It should be noted that yesterday the Ministry of Higher Education of the Taliban ordered that the education of girls and women in all private and public universities be stopped until further notice.
