America also condemned the Taliban’s suspension of education for female students
The US State Department has condemned the Taliban’s decision to suspend the education of female students and said that this action alienates the government of this group from the international community.
In a press conference yesterday (Tuesday), Ned Price, the spokesperson of the US Department of State, condemned the Taliban’s decision to close universities to girls in Afghanistan and said that this action deprives the group of legitimacy that they expect from the international community and the government of this group will distance itself from the international community.
He added that with this action of the Taliban, half of the population of Afghanistan will soon not be able to access education above the primary level.
The spokesman of the Taliban’s foreign ministry emphasized that no country can grow without the participation of women, saying that the Taliban government has condemned the women of Afghanistan to a darker future.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Higher Education of the caretaker Taliban government suspended the attendance and education of girls in all private and public universities of Afghanistan until further notice.
This decision of the Taliban brought domestic and international reactions and the United Nations also condemned this action in a statement.
Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Afghanistan, also responded to this action of the Taliban and said that this decision shows a greater violation of the right to equal education and the erasure of women from the Afghan society.
