OCHA: More than 28 million people in Afghanistan will need humanitarian aid in 2023

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan (OCHA) has announced that the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan has reached more than 28 million in 2023.

OCHA wrote in a tweet that the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan has increased from 6.3 million people in 2019 to 28.3 million people in 2023.

This institution added that about 6 million people are currently facing emergency levels of food insecurity in Afghanistan and are on the verge of famine.

OCHA called this number one of the highest figures in the world in absolute terms.

Yesterday, this organization wrote in a tweet that the deteriorating economy in Afghanistan has caused a sharp decrease in income, increased family debt and unemployment, and currently 80% of families across Afghanistan are experiencing a decrease in income.

According to this report, the debt of each Afghan family has increased from 114 dollars in 2019 to 687 dollars in 2022.
