After a year of opposition, Turkey’s president agreed to Sweden joining NATO

Jens Stoltenberg, the head of NATO, has confirmed the agreement of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sweden’s accession to NATO and has called this day a historic day.
After the trilateral talks between Erdoğan and Sweden’s Prime Minister Kristerson, he wrote in a tweet that Turkey has agreed to take appropriate measures to accept Sweden’s request for membership in NATO.
The NATO Secretary General said in a press conference after the talks that Erdogan has agreed to send Sweden’s accession protocol to the Turkish parliament as soon as possible and to work closely with the country’s parliament to ensure its approval.
Sweden’s accession to NATO was opposed by Turkey for security reasons since a year ago.
