Jan Egeland: Emergency aid alone cannot address long-term needs in Afghanistan

Jan Egeland, head of the Norwegian Migration Council, says that emergency aid alone cannot meet long-term needs in Afghanistan.

He said on page X that donors should be committed to sustainable financing and the return of development aid because the people of Afghanistan need the collective participation of the international community more than ever.

The head of the Norwegian Migration Council added: “NRC projects provide basic aid despite adversity, but aid groups are increasingly facing a lack of funds. “We need more foreign diplomats to come back to Kabul and help fight for human rights and humanitarian principles.”

According to him, the situation is still very difficult, but Afghan male and female aid workers are able to provide direct assistance to men and women in need throughout the country.
