Islamic Emirate Credits Qatar for Help in Strengthening Intl Relations
Suhail Shaheen, the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador to Qatar, has highlighted Doha’s crucial role in expanding the caretaker government’s relations with the world.
Shaheen stated that Afghanistan currently enjoys friendly relations with Qatar in various sectors.
The Islamic Emirate’s ambassador in Doha said: “Our relations with Qatar are friendly and brotherly, and we collaborate in various fields. We welcome Qatari investments in Afghanistan.”
The Islamic Emirate’s embassy in Qatar remains active, enabling the caretaker government to establish connections with various countries worldwide.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, emphasized Qatar’s ongoing role in Afghanistan, stating: “Qatar has always maintained good relations and played a key role in cooperation with Afghanistan. Even now, it continues to make efforts to foster positive interactions between Afghanistan and other countries and has consistently acted as a good mediator.”
Meanwhile, some political analysts also consider Qatar’s role crucial in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Zalmai Afghan Yar, a political analyst, stated: “Over the past two decades, Qatar has played a key role in Afghanistan’s political affairs, including the signing of the Doha Agreement. Over the past three and a half years, as Afghanistan has faced isolation, Qatar has been striving to manage Afghanistan’s interactions with regional and international countries while preserving its national interests.”
Qatar has played a significant role in Afghanistan’s international relations, particularly since the Islamic Emirate took power in 2021.
However, what role can Qatar play in Afghanistan’s economic development?
Abdul Zuhoor Madaber, another political analyst, commented: “Qatar has acted as an intermediary and has been a good facilitator. As we experience economic challenges, any opportunity can bring hope for us. Qatar’s economic engagements in recent years have been constructive.”
Qatar has served as the primary host for peace negotiations between the Islamic Emirate and the former Afghan government, as well as in talks between the Islamic Emirate, the United States, and other Western countries. These negotiations, held in Doha, led to the 2020 peace agreement between the Islamic Emirate and the US.
