NEPA: Intl Help for Climate Change Should Not Be Politicized
The National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) stated that the world views Afghanistan’s environment and the adverse effects of climate change through a political lens.
Matiul Haq Khalis, the head of this agency, in a meeting with the chargé d’affaires of the European Union for Afghanistan, said that the EU could assist Afghanistan in accessing global financial resources for climate change.
“Discussions were held on suspended environmental projects, climate change, access to bilateral financial resources, Afghanistan’s participation in the 29th UN Climate Change Conference, as well as regional and international meetings related to climate change, exchange of information, and coordination in implementing environmental programs,” said Ruhullah Amin, head of Climate Change at the NEPA.
Some environmental experts consider such meetings beneficial for the implementation of unfinished climate change projects.
“Through dialogue, we can reach an understanding and find solutions and practical measures for some issues. Therefore, if climate change is not taken seriously by the international community and the Afghan government, and if it is not placed on the main agenda, this humanitarian crisis will worsen,” said Sayed Mohammad Suleiman Khail, an environmental expert.
Meanwhile, officials of the Islamic Emirate have consistently emphasized that world countries should not politicize the issue of climate change.
