The Head of Governance at the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has stressed the importance of transparency and public participation in development projects to eliminate corruption and ensure proper implementation.
Hassan Al-Haj, speaking at a two-day seminar aimed at strengthening the development committee in Parwan, emphasized that institutions and organizations must be accountable to the people.
“We are inclusive, transparent, and accountable. I heard the governor says the word Fasad (corruption), and I think transparency and accountability are key to eliminating such Fasad,” said the Head of Governance at UNAMA.
Meanwhile, local officials in Parwan have called on aid organizations to provide urgent assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and flood victims in the province.
Mohammad Idris Anwari, the Governor of Parwan, stated: “We must create opportunities for employment and development and address people’s problems in a fundamental way. This is our responsibility.”
The Parwan Department of Economy has highlighted the urgent need for winter aid for displaced individuals, returning Afghan migrants, and flood victims in the province, urging organizations and institutions to assist in this matter.
Mujibullah Rahimi, the Head of the Parwan Department of Economy, said: “We expect national and international institutions to fully support vulnerable communities. The people of Parwan have consistently suffered serious damage from floods and are in urgent need of assistance.”
Previously, aid organizations had expressed concerns over the proper delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in genuine need and the correct implementation of development projects in certain parts of the country.
