Amu River Bank Reinforcement Begins in Takhar with 65M Afghani Budget

The Amu River bank reinforcement project, with a budget of 65 million Afghanis, has commenced in Darqad district of Takhar province.
According to the head of the Amu River Bank Reinforcement Department, the project is expected to be completed within ten months and will help mitigate damage caused by flooding.
Sayed Ghulam Mashani, the head of the department, stated: “Insha’Allah, this project will be completed within ten months. Its cost is covered by the budget of the Islamic Emirate and is estimated at 65 million Afghanis.”
Several residents of Takhar have said that for years, flooding has damaged their agricultural lands and homes.
They added that the implementation of this project has given them renewed hope and has also created employment opportunities for some individuals.
Mohammad Sadiq, a resident of Takhar, said: “The water from this river has destroyed people’s homes and ruined their agricultural fields.”
Baba Jan, a laborer, said: “We request the government to implement more such projects so that our people can find work.”
Darqad is one of the districts of Takhar that, due to its location along the Amu River, has always been at serious risk of flooding.
Officials say that with the implementation of this project, it is expected that agricultural lands and homes in the area will be protected from such threats.
