New Hospital Opens in Paktia to Improve Maternal and Child Health

The Department of Public Health in Paktia has announced the establishment of a hospital in Gardez city, the provincial capital, in collaboration with a supporting organization, specifically aimed at ensuring the safety of mothers and children.

According to officials, the operation of this hospital is expected to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and infants during childbirth.

Mehraj Gul Adel, head of Paktia’s Public Health Department, said: “We offer services in areas such as malnutrition, vaccination, physiotherapy, and maternal and child care. The facility provides 24-hour services and includes laboratory and ultrasound departments.”

Some residents of Paktia have welcomed this initiative and called for similar healthcare centers in remote areas of the province to protect the health of mothers and children.

Ehsanullah, a resident of Paktia, said: “Maternal and child mortality is relatively high in Paktia due to the lack of hospitals. We are very pleased with the construction of this hospital.”

Sahil, another resident, stated: “This is a significant step for maternal and child health, and we urge the authorities to take more such initiatives.”

Ahmad Shah, also from Paktia, said: “We ask the authorities to establish similar healthcare centers in the districts, improve their services, and enhance their capacity.”

According to the Department of Public Health, hospitals will be established at the level of each district in Paktia, which will help resolve many of the existing healthcare challenges in the province.
