Kabul Municipality Leads Citywide Development Initiatives

Kabul Municipality officials emphasize that urban infrastructure is one of the core priorities of the institution, and they are striving to place Kabul among the world’s standard cities within the next ten years.

According to officials, the municipality collected nearly seven billion Afghanis in revenue from various sectors last year, bringing the institution’s total revenue over the past four years to 24 billion Afghanis.

The Kabul Municipality added that in the past year, 83 kilometers of new roads were constructed, and 58 kilometers of other roads were reconstructed.

Amer Zomrak Yaser, Deputy of Construction at Kabul Municipality, said: “In the past four years, nearly 300 kilometers of main and secondary roads have been built and put into use, and currently, 115 road construction projects are underway.”

Kabul Municipality also reported that 1,086 properties were expropriated last year, with over 1.7 billion Afghanis paid to the owners in compensation, and this process is ongoing.

The municipality’s budget for the current year is set at 11.6 billion Afghanis, 70% of which is allocated to development projects.

Nematullah Barekzai, a representative of Kabul Municipality, stated: “In the expropriation sector, Kabul Municipality has expropriated 1,086 properties, and 1.7 billion Afghanis have been paid to the owners as compensation for buildings. In total, over the past four years, we have paid nearly three billion Afghanis in building compensation to citizens, and this process continues daily.”

Mohammad Qasim Afghan, Head of Planning, Policy, Monitoring, and Evaluation at Kabul Municipality, also said: “The Mayor of Kabul always emphasizes that we must give special attention to infrastructure and development in projects so that urban congestion can be reduced.”

Kabul Municipality mentioned the initiation and progress of projects such as the Kabul–Logar road, Kabul–Jalalabad road, Khair-Khana pass, and Kampani road, stressing that these projects will be completed on schedule.

According to officials, various projects of Kabul Municipality have also provided job opportunities for hundreds of citizens.
