Global Reactions, Condolences after Devastating Quake in Eastern Provinces

Following the severe earthquake in eastern Afghanistan and the resulting casualties, various countries and organizations have expressed condolences and sympathy with the survivors of this tragedy.

Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, expressed sympathy with the earthquake victims in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan in a video message sent to . He assured that Russia will take necessary measures to support those affected through humanitarian assistance.

Kabulov said: “We will officially express our formal condolences to Afghan nation about this issue, and as we did many times, I’m sure Russian government will take the necessary steps to support Afghans who suffered from this earthquake by relief aid in nearest future.”

This deadly event sparked reactions from regional and world leaders and launched a wave of global solidarity with Afghanistan.

India’s Prime Minister said his country is ready to send humanitarian aid. Narendra Modi added: “India is ready to provide any possible humanitarian assistance to the victims and support them.”

Iran’s President also announced Tehran’s full readiness to cooperate. Masoud Pezeshkian said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for any cooperation, delivery of aid, and dispatch of humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister expressed sympathy with the Afghan people. Shehbaz Sharif said: “On behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan, I extend my heartfelt condolences & prayers to the bereaved families. We stand in solidarity with our Afghan brothers & sisters in this hour of grief, and we are ready to extend all possible support in this regard.”

Japan’s ambassador to Afghanistan and the Turkish embassy in Kabul also declared their solidarity. Takayoshi Kuromiya said: “I was deeply saddened and distressed to hear the news of the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victims of this tragedy and sympathize with their bereaved families.”

The UN Secretary-General and the European Union also announced that they will spare no effort in assisting the earthquake victims. António Guterres added: “The UN team in Afghanistan is mobilized and will spare no effort to assist those in need in the affected areas.”

Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, held a phone conversation with his Indian counterpart. S. Jaishankar, in addition to expressing sympathy, announced the dispatch of urgent humanitarian aid, including 1,000 tents and 15 tons of food supplies.

Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defense, in a statement expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized that “the country’s armed forces are obliged to rush to assist the victims using all available resources” and issued immediate orders to the relevant units for relief efforts.

Meanwhile, former President Hamid Karzai, former head of the High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah, and former US envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called for urgent aid to last night’s earthquake victims.
