Over 2,000 Earthquake Victims Treated in Afghanistan’s Health Centers

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that more than 2,000 people injured in the recent earthquake in eastern provinces of the country have been treated at health centers.

Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, the ministry’s spokesperson, added that medical services were also provided on-site to a number of other wounded individuals.

He said: “The rescue operation has been ongoing since yesterday. So far, nearly 2,300 injured people have been transferred to our health centers. The actual number of injured is even higher, as our teams are also delivering services directly at the scene of the incident.”

Meanwhile, several injured individuals have expressed satisfaction with the timely medical response and their transfer to hospitals.

Dr. Rahmatullah Khaksar stated: “Injured individuals are still being transferred to hospitals, and some are still trapped under the rubble.”

Ashraf, one of the wounded, said: “We are grateful to the government for sending a helicopter to evacuate us to the hospital and for all the support provided.”

Some of the injured, with their bodies covered in wounds, shared harrowing accounts of that night.

Talib Jan, another victim, said: “It was midnight when the earthquake struck. It shook us violently.”

This comes as Monday night’s earthquake caused deaths and injuries in the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Laghman, and Nuristan.
