Earthquake Victims in Kunar Treated in Temporary Health Centers

The recent devastating earthquakes in Kunar destroyed 16 health centers either completely or partially, disrupting the provision of health services to the people.

Ahmad Reza, a resident of Dewagal Valley in Sawkai District who was seriously injured in the recent deadly quake, now visits a temporary health center daily for treatment.

He said his health is gradually improving.

Ahmad Reza told : “The ceiling of the room collapsed on me; my leg was injured, all my family members were wounded. Then the Islamic Emirate soldiers came, rescued us and took us for treatment. They built a hospital here for us, and every day they change my wound dresses and provide free health services.”

Meanwhile, several other earthquake victims in Kunar expressed concern that if permanent health centers are not rebuilt before winter, the lives of families and young children will face serious challenges.

Earthquake-affected resident Jamdarkhan said: “Health centers in our area are destroyed. We request the government to rebuild them and reassign doctors. We have many patients, and if these clinics are not rebuilt, our problems will increase.”

Another victim, Mohammad Hasan, said: “We are currently living in this temporary camp. We may stay here for ten days, twenty days, or a month, or we may leave. We ask that our clinics be rebuilt in our areas.”

Local officials in Kunar confirm that the recent earthquake fully or partially destroyed 16 health centers in the province, halting health service delivery.

Kunar Public Health Director, Muzaffar Mukhlis, stated: “We have activated around 50 clinics in temporary camps. For every group of earthquake-affected people in these camps, we have assigned medical teams and established health centers to provide full health services.”

More than two weeks ago, the deadly earthquake in Kunar not only destroyed health centers but also damaged 306 schools including madrasas, nearly 7,000 residential homes, and resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries.
