Afghanistan Approves Policy on Mineral Exports and Border Lab Complex

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, approved the draft policy on the processing and export of mineral materials during the regular meeting of the Economic Commission. The draft had been proposed by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.

This policy has been developed to enable the processing of mineral materials based on national and international standards, attract domestic and foreign investment in this sector, create coordination among relevant institutions, and expand job opportunities within the country.

Deputy Spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, Hamdullah Fitrat, stated: “The draft policy for the processing and export of mineral materials was presented by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum during the regular meeting of the Economic Commission led by Honorable Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund. After comprehensive discussion, it was approved.”

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Mines and Industries consider the approval of this policy important for preventing the export of raw mineral materials and for opening new international markets for Afghanistan.

The Chamber emphasizes that domestic processing of mineral materials can contribute to the development of local industries and the increase of export revenues.

First Deputy of the Chamber of Industries and Mines, Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, said: “If we can process even 40% of Afghanistan’s mineral materials and export them, it will create export opportunities for investors.”

Economic affairs expert Mohammad Nabi Afghan believes: “The plans and drafts approved by the government must be practical because we are facing many challenges.”

The Economic Commission of the Prime Minister’s Office also approved the plan for establishing a laboratory complex at key borders and crossing points of the country. Under this plan, laboratory facilities will be established for nine ministries and related institutions, with approximately 40 acres of land allocated each.
