Nine army soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on a checkpoint in Baghlan

Local sources in Baghlan report that nine army soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on an army checkpoint in the central Baghlan district.

Assadollah Shahbaz; A member of the Baghlan Provincial Council says that Taliban fighters attacked an army checkpoint in the central Baghlan district last night (Monday, May 3), after which clashes between army forces and the Taliban continued until this morning.

Mr. Shahbaz added that as a result of this incident, the checkpoint fell to the Taliban and the fighters of this group took the weapons and ammunition of this checkpoint and also destroyed several armored tanks of the army.

According to Mr. Shahbaz, 9 army soldiers were killed and 16 of them were captured in this incident.

Baghlan districts have witnessed heavy fighting between army and Taliban forces in recent months.
