Afghanistan’s Monthly Exports Rise by $40M Despite Trade Challenges

The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) says Afghanistan’s exports saw a $40 million increase in the month of Mizan (September–October), compared to the previous month.

According to the report, Afghanistan’s total export value during Mizan exceeded $274 million, while in the previous month, Sunbula (August–September), it was around $230 million.

Most Afghan goods and products were exported to Turkey, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

NSIA spokesperson Halim Rafi said: “In Sunbula 1404, Afghanistan’s total export value was $229.8 million. The data shows that in Mizan 1404, the value increased by $45.1 million compared to the previous month.”

This growth comes despite border closures with Pakistan and ongoing transit and banking challenges faced by Afghan traders.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock stressed the need for greater investment in processing domestic products to further increase exports.

Waseem Safi, the chamber’s executive director, said: “We must increase our exports, not just to neighboring countries, but also to markets in Europe and the U.S. From the very beginning, products should be prepared for export in a standard way.”

It is also noted that in Mizan, Afghanistan’s imports totaled $1.168 billion, while in Sunbula they had reached $1.232 billion.
