UN Secretary-General welcomes Security Council resolution on Gaza

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the adoption of a US-sponsored resolution on Gaza on Tuesday morning, describing it as “an important step towards consolidating the ceasefire.”
Guterres, who has repeatedly expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza over the past two years, called the resolution a step towards reducing tensions, while China and Russia strongly criticized the resolution.
China’s permanent representative to the UN, Fu Kang, expressed “grave concern” that the resolution “does not fully take into account the sovereignty and property rights of Palestine.”
On the other hand, Russia’s permanent representative, Vassily Nebenzia, explained his country’s abstention by saying that the text of the resolution contradicts the UN General Assembly’s declaration on the two-state solution.
It is worth noting that the exact details of the resolution have not yet been officially announced.
